History

The late Ray Jewell instigated a meeting in the early 1980s with numismatists from each State with the view to establishing a national body to both speak on behalf of all collectors in Australia and produce a national journal. In 1985 volume one of our journal was printed and some years later a constitution was formerly adopted. Funds were raised by holding fairs and receiving donations from the issuing authorities. Today funds are raised by sponsorships, membership, and State societies.

The NAA now holds biennial conferences in Sydney, the next being in November 2007. The Annual General Meeting is held in Melbourne on the Friday afternoon at Museum Victoria, immediately following the Noble (Melbourne July/August) auction; all members of the Association are welcome to attend.

Members receive a free annual journal, and discount on their conference registration fee.
